step three

As a result of the science I’ve delved into, the therapy I’ve done with patients, and the suffering I’ve experienced in my life, I’ve developed the Thriving Strategies Framework. The hardest of the four strategies, I think, is love. It led me to ask this question: Can we really, genuinely, sincerely love some who cannot be there for us? I think the painful truth is that we can and do, even though for some of us, those folks will never be who we want them to be. But wanting people to be other than they are, perhaps, is not very loving either. Or, rather, insisting or needing them to be different isn’t loving maybe. I don’t have it all worked out. : ) But, this song, “Red and Black and Blue” is part of the journey to engaging with that issue.

This song is about a magical being who is so sensitive, awake, and aware that she doesn’t quite belong in our current culture, a culture that is disconnecting, destructive, fragile, and unsustainable. Such a being needs our support and constancy. “Stay Always By Her Side” is an homage to her.
